In a village, there were two friends named Ramu and Somu. Both of them worked at a job in a neighboring town, so they always went to work together.
One day, while going to work, they came across a treasure hidden at a spot. Somu saw it and said, “I’m really lucky; look, I’ve found a treasure!”
Immediately, Ramu replied, “We’re both lucky. We both saw it together, so it belongs to both of us.”
But Somu insisted, “No, I was the first to see the treasure, so it belongs to me.”
Ramu, remained quiet and didn’t argue.
Then, from a distance, they heard a commotion. When they looked back, they saw a crowd running towards them with sticks. One voice in the crowd was shouting, “Someone has stolen the temple jewelry. Catch the thief!”
Panicked, Somu said, “Ramu, if they see us with this treasure, they’ll think we stole the temple jewelry and beat us up.”
Hearing this, Ramu replied, “They’ll beat you, not me. Just a moment ago, you claimed the treasure was yours alone, so the trouble is yours to deal with. I’m leaving now.”
The moral of the story is that if we don’t share the good things that come our way with others, they won’t stand by us during difficult times.
